The Town of Wolfville, Nova Scotia is in the heart of the Annapolis Valley. With its rich and vibrant history, stunning landscapes and architecture, an abundance of excellent restaurants and shops, and a flourishing arts community, it is an ideal location for an annual music festival. Festival volunteers plan and create an event to be enjoyed by music lovers of all ages.
The Canadian Deep Roots Music Festival celebrates Nova Scotia's diverse musical traditions - blending the music of founding cultures with modern roots music from across North America and around the world.
The Festival features the music of the cultures that settled the region - Mi'kmaq, Acadian, African-Nova Scotian, and British Isles. Our own musicians and singer/songwriters are highlighted, as well as Canadian and international performers. Our acts this year include Danny Michel, Kinnie Starr, Digging Roots, Ron Hynes, Twilight Hotel, Gypsophilia and many more.
Most Festival activities take place indoors. Evening main-stage concerts are held in the warm and welcoming ambience of University Hall. Daytime venues, including the Festival Theatre, Denton Hall and Al Whittle Theatre, hold folk dancing, drumming and singing workshops, performances and concerts for all ages.
We hope to have a sparkling September Saturday to enjoy the "Fresh Beats Rhythm Parade" followed by a free concert in the Clock Park Festival Tent. (If it is pouring rain, the parade will be cancelled. If it is a light drizzle, we'll go ahead with rain coats and gum boots. The concert in the tent will go ahead rain or shine!) On Sunday everyone loves to take part in the Sing-along Concert and the Festival Finale.
We invite one and all to come at harvest time to experience the bounties of the Canadian Deep Roots Music Festival. For a musical and cultural experience you will never forget, make your plans now to be at Deep Roots in September.
