SO YOU WANT TO BE A ROCK STAR?

ROCK CAMP MARCH 13-16, 2012 AT NSCC KINGSTEC CAMPUS, KENTVILLE

This is a good place to start. Hosted by local musician Jake Smith this one week camp will cover everything from songwriting, performing, recording and musical instrument care, to marketing and advertising.

If you're into music and hope to start your own band - or play in one someday, or you just want to learn a little about performance and music, this is the best March Break value.

FOR AGES 14-18

Registrants must have at least one year’s experience playing an instrument. This camp will give you an opportunity to expand and refine your abilities. The camp will end with a live performance to showcase your talent and what you have learned.

PROGRAM ENROLLMENT

All forms must be completed, signed and submitted with full payment by March 12.

JAKE SMITH began playing guitar at age fourteen and started teaching guitar lessons in high school. In 1995 he joined acoustic rock band Rhythm Seed. The band released two EP’s and had a video on Much Music.

In 2001 Smith joined the Jimmy Swift Band and won an ECMA for Best Alternative Rock Band. They played 200 shows a year giving him the experience needed to record and tour as a professional musician.

Jake is now the lead vocalist and guitarist for The Fed Pennies. He has produced two CD’s for the band and directed three videos. In April 2011 The Fed Pennies won the East Coast Music Award for Loud Recording of the Year.

On January 28th, 2008 The Fed Pennies played the show of a lifetime when they opened for Ozzy Osbourne at The Halifax Metro Centre.

They have singles in regular rotation on several radio stations in Canada and their latest release “Buzzing in my Head” is featured on the Sega video game “Vancouver 2010” which is the official video game of the Winter Olympics.

Jake has been teaching at Dorian Hall and Moe’s Place in Windsor for nine years. He has been an instructor for summer rock camps in Windsor and at the School of Performing Arts in Fall River
